ACTER 2018 Field Symposium

ACTER 2018

The 2018 ACTER field symposium will be held in NW China during 25 Aug. – 5 Sept., along the mighty Qilian Mountains, Gansu province, China. We will focus this event on (1) the Early Paleozoic Qilian Orogen featuring oceanic subduction and arc-continent collision, and (2) Cenozoic fold-and-thrust belt in relation to the uplift and expansion of the Tibet Plateau.

The event will be jointly organised by Zhejiang University (lead organiser Prof. Hanlin Chen and Dr Lei Wu) and Peking University (lead organiser Prof. Shuguang Song). We warmly welcome you to join the event and enjoy the excellent geological and cultural journey.

Schedule

  • 25 Aug. – Arrival and check-in, Jiayuguan city (most famous for the nearby Jiayu Pass, the largest and most intact pass of the Great Wall of China), we will pick you up once you arrive at Jiayuguan;
  • 26 – 28 Aug. – Early Paleozoic oceanic subduction and the subsequent orogeny of the North Qilian Mountain, Sunan for the nights;
  • 29 Aug. – 1 Sept. – The North Qilian Thrust Belt (NQTB) in relation with the expansion of the Tibetan Plateau in the Cenozoic, Yumen for the nights;
  • 2 Sept. – Early Paleozoic metamafic rocks south of Dunhuang, Dunhuang for the night;

There will be some oral presentations in the evenings during the field trip. Details of these presentations will be released later, together with the field guide.

Cost and Payment

The registration fess for the field symposium will be AUD 1,700 (Australian dollar) or CNY 8,500 (Chinese Yuan) for twin-shared accommodation. It covers the field guide, accommodation (twin-shared room), meals and transportation in Gansu between 25 August and 2 September, 2018. If a single-occupant room is required, the fees will be AUD 2,100 (Australian dollar) or CNY 11,000 (Chinese Yuan).

The fees will need to be paid to Zhejiang University by bank transfer before 30 June, 2018. Please find the details in the 2018 ACTER field symposium – first announcement.
